Shim Frankel is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of New Jersey and an addictionologist specializing in the treatment of complex trauma, substance use disorders, process addictions, and compulsive sexual behaviors. With more than 15 years of experience providing individual and couples therapy, Shim is well known in the addiction and recovery community and brings a strong working knowledge of 12-step recovery to his clinical work.

Shim trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy directly with Drs. Aaron and Judith Beck at the Beck Institute for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in Philadelphia. He received advanced training in sex addiction and betrayal trauma directly from Dr. Patrick Carnes and Dr. Stephanie Carnes through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP), where he completed his training as a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist (CSAT).

Shim's clinical development included extensive mentorship and apprenticeship under John and Elaine Leadem in couples therapy, family recovery, and relapse prevention. He has also received advanced training in psychodrama and experiential therapy with senior A.B.E. psychodramatist Nina Garcia.

Shim worked with Addiction Recovery Services at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he provided individual therapy and facilitated intensive outpatient addiction groups. He also served on the advanced multidisciplinary clinical team at The Rugby School at Woodfield, an out-of-district behavioral school serving children and adolescents in grades K–12.

Today, Shim's private practice focuses on individual, couples, and group therapy, with particular expertise in the treatment of complex PTSD, addiction, betrayal trauma, and relationship repair.

Shim works collaboratively with a treatment team of licensed social workers under his clinical supervision.
